Mark Albertelly
NOAA’s National Weather Service
Employee of the Month
March, 2009

Mark Albertelly, a Radar Operations Center customer service center expert, helped to implement the complex communication circuits necessary to deliver data from 45 FAA terminal doppler weather radars to 34 weather forecast offices across the country, improving national radar coverage to provide better severe storm coverage and improved public services. Mark’s outstanding technical leadership contributions helped his team identify and test the circuits required for this new auxiliary backup weather radar data vital to storm detection, advisory, and warnings. Mark’s efforts blended two independent strategies into a single strategy that vastly improved the installation timeliness and maximized follow-on customer service support at the Radar Operations Center hotline service center. Mark’s contributions significantly improved the NWS’s ability to deliver enhanced life-saving severe weather products, directly leading to reduced storm-related deaths and enhanced service to commerce.

Team Member of the Month
March, 2009

Karen Greene has been a contractor with NOAA’s Office of Sustainable Fisheries since 1997, helping implement provisions of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. Since early 2005, Karen worked closely with Sustainable Fisheries leadership to developed and put into action an innovative and Government Performance and Results Act Fish Stock Sustainability Index which comprehensively measures the sustainability of 230 important fish stocks. Creating such an index was made necessary to meet the challenge of measuring real world outcomes established by GPRA. In addition, Karen has improved collection of information from NOAA Fisheries science centers and regional offices and instituted a system of quarterly updates to the index that are available to the public on the NOAA Fisheries home page.
