Meet September 2009 Employee and Team Member of the Month
Larry Loewen
Office of Marine & Aviation Operations
Employee of the Month
September, 2009
Larry Loewen, a ship electronics representative in the electronics engineering branch of Seattle’s Marine Operations Center-Pacific, normally covers three ships of NOAA’s Pacific Fleet, but because his two colleagues recently retired, he is now responsible for electronics installation and contractor services for all nine ships in Seattle. Larry has managed to keep this pace up for more than a year now, working long hours and overseeing projects on ships in remote locations outside of Seattle. His dedication to duty and his attention to detail has earned him respect from all who work with him.
National Ocean Service
Team Member of the Month
September, 2009
Web developer Jin Wang, in NOAA’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management’s estuarine reserves division, has used her outstanding technical and teamwork skills to create and transform the Internet communications that are critical to the mission of the division and the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. Education and communication with targeted audiences are essential for the division and the reserve system, a state partnership network of 27 state-managed reserves around the country. That communication success demands easy-to-use, reliable and creative Web sites, which Wang has developed in a relatively short time. She built the system’s intranet from scratch, a first for NOAA's Ocean Service, enabling state partners to directly access a business platform. Wang also overhauled the reserve system’s education Web site, the home of the renowned Estuaries 101 curriculum.
